Visiting the orphanage in Lutsk nov. 2005 29-11-2005The boarding school is nice and clean but totally worn down. They are doing what they can for the children, but provisions are very low. All the children are sleeping in dormitories containing 18 beds. You may ask, where do they keep their private things, but the truth is they own nothing so there is no need for larger wardrobes. All the kitchen service is for about 500 persons and are washed by hand. That will be at least 2.000 pieces plus sets of knifes, spoons and forks. Notice the little water-heater. They have now received a dish-washer from Denmark and it is going to be installed during the summer-hollidays. The most dreadful was the “dental- clinic” from 1950. They only had an old mechanic drill and no form of anaesthesia. No wonder, that the kids were a little anxious going to the dentist. They have now received a new clinic from Denmark expected to be installed during this year. Visit in sep. 2004 we bought some equipment to their department for pets. More animals have been added since and they are VERY affectionate, but still it is not enough for 4-500 children. They have a play-room and some old worn-out toys. Recently they got a television-room, but the kids are sitting on the floor. It would be more comfortable with some soft sofas to make the room look more like a living-room. The dining-room still has many benches. Our hope is to provide for 100 chairs. From left Volydymir from Lutsk Tourist Agency, who is volunteer in our aid project, Tommi Tomsen, who is leading the practical work from Denmark, Antolya, who is principal of the school - and Poul Dalgaard.
